Professional Pilot

Where did your dreams start? And where will they take you?
Earning your Commercial Pilot License is the beginning of a rewarding journey as a professional pilot in today's exciting aviation industry. Never before has technology changed so rapidly in the industry; Never before have the world's borders shrunk so dramatically, fueling an ever increasing demand for aviators in today's cutting edge aircraft and the avionics employed by the present day commercial fleet.
Today is the time for you to take the step to realize your vision... and begin a new career path that will take you to greater heights.
Breaking the Mold
Flight training, for the past 40 years or more, has been dominated by aircraft technology and methodology. The higher volume flight schools are more concerned with churning out pilots to meet the minimum standards set by the FAA, rather then training skilled and fully competent pilots.
A New approach: Ignore the industry's status quo and build a premier flight academy; A flight training school without equal!
Without Equal
In the world of flight training, Coast Flight Academy stands without equal. At Coast, we fly the best aircraft, utilize the latest technology and instruct using the innovative scenario-based training curriculum. As a result, our students are recognized for being premier aviators.
Not All Hours are Created Equal
Scenario-based training: It's how we train our pilots. This means, from the first time you step foot into one of our aircraft, we’re guiding you through real world scenarios and situations you will most likely encounter as a commercial pilot. The military and airlines have been training their pilots, for over 20 years, using these scenario-based methods, and it hasn't been available to civilians... until now. Our Chief Pilot has over 20,000 hours, flying for both the US Air Force and Continental Airlines which are recognized leaders in scenario-based training.
At Coast Flight Academy, we train you to fly, not fly you to train. Because our methodology is based on real world experience, students fly to over 50 different airports in places like California, Nevda and Arizona, including an exercise clearing US Customs into Mexico. Students will learn to navigate in some of the busiest and most complex airspaces in the world, such as Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). They will be trained in over 25 real world scenarios; everything from theoretically delivering cargo to Las Vegas, to taking real estate photos for a project.
“The Scenario-based students out-performed the maneuver-based students in six of seven research measures.”
– FAA Evaluation of Scenario-Based Training February 15, 2007

Not All Ground Training is Created Equal
Books, Books, Books. A fact of life in flight training. Ground school has often been a necessary, but grueling task to both student and flight instructor. But, when Coast Flight Academy set out to revolutionize flight training, we took on ground school as well. We have set out to build the most effective and technical ground school on the market today. Coast Flight Academy prepares you for international flying, by teaching many of the ICAO standards used around the world. While we still use a number of books, we've set out to create a ground school built around a deeper, more realistic understanding of the principals involved with being a pilot. We've transformed ground school into a hands-on learning experience, with practical experiments, round trips, amazing video demonstrations and frequent trips to the mechanic's bay. You could call it a scenario-based ground school, but we call it Ground Lab.

San Diego, California
A City Without Equal
Training in San Diego is, arguably, the best environment to learn to fly in. Southern California contains some of the busiest and most challenging airspaces in the world. Throughout training, students will become increasingly more comfortable in this diverse and challenging airspace environment. Within an hour flight radius of Coast Flight Academy, there are 2 Class B, 5 Class C, 21 Class D airspaces, 3 restricted military zones and over 70 uncontrolled airports. Within the same distance, you will overfly endless miles of coastline to the west and have the opportunity to land at airfields as high as 8,000 ft MSL.
In San Diego, we are blessed with beautiful weather the majority of the year. However, the morning coastal fog layer and the diverse weather of California and the surrounding states, gives us ample oppurtunity to train IFR in real Intrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC). Furthermore, training will take students to places such as Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon, Phoenix, Lake Tahoe and even Mexico.
San Diego, California... It's not just the city where Coast Flight Academy is based.. It is also the city in which you will live, train and play.
Living in San Diego, is to enjoy the best California has to offer. San Diego is widely recognized as one of the best places, in the world, to live. The active lifestyle of San Diego covers a wide range of activities; everything from sailing and surfing, to jogging and playing golf.
